On September 15th, Microsoft, a huge company that makes and sells computers and other devices, announced that they were going to purchase Mojang, the company that makes the game Minecraft. Minecraft is a wildly successful game with 100 million downloads that has exploded in popularity ever since it was released in 2011. Microsoft has revealed they paid a whopping $2.5 billion for the game, along with Mojang, a company that also makes other games. This has left some Minecraft players angry and scared, since Microsoft could change the game. A major shock came when the founders of Mojang left the company, leaving control to Microsoft. Will Microsoft improve Mojang and Minecraft or will they ruin the game and the company that the creators have worked hard on for years? Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft's Xbox division said, "We are going to maintain 'Minecraft' and its community in all the ways people love today, with a commitment...to grow it long into the future." Time will tell if the merging of these two giants will be for the better or for the worse.
